What to Expect During Your Visit

New parents often have many questions about their new baby, from bathing and feeding, to child proofing and car seats. Our providers and care team are here to make sure that you have your questions answered to help you grow into your new role as a confident and competent parent.

Your newborn’s first visit with a pediatrician will be a day or two after leaving the hospital. The first appointment will be a bit longer since this is the first time that we get to meet your new addition (so it’s an exciting time for us as well!). We will review the birth records, discuss your experience so far, and perform a thorough physical examination to make sure your baby is adjusting to life outside the womb. We will administer any immunizations that are due. We will also make the next few follow up appointments and get you on the patient portal. It can help for you to write down your questions so you don't forget anything.

Babies change so quickly which is why you will have several appointments in the first few weeks,. These regular newborn care visits are so incredibly important to make sure your baby has a good start and support your new family.

There is a wonderful new addition to infant care which you may have heard about. RSV is a virus that causes respiratory infections which can be extremely severe in the youngest babies. We now have an immunization to decrease the severity and morbity. Beyfortus is a monoclonal antibody for babies to prevent severe RSV. This is a huge step forward in preventing severe RSV in infants and we are very excited to be able to offer it.  RSV info from CDC . Some women may have gotten an RSV vaccine during pregnancy which means the baby does not need Beyfortus.
